Harms of the Generative AI

Responding to Eli Zaretskii's question on the emacs-devel mailing list about which harms LLMs pose to Emacs, the author argues that LLMs exploit the brain's laziness and addictive tendencies by offering ready-made solutions instead of advice, encouraging dependency and undermining focused thinking and learning. The author rejects the calculator analogy, contending that LLMs can make people feel they need not understand anything, and concludes that no productivity gains justify this loss of self-reliance.
