Anthropic's internal AI use, at retail prices, now exceeds its employee pay

Anthropic's IPO filing shows that in April the value of Claude AI used internally, calculated at the prices Anthropic charges customers, exceeded its monthly employee compensation costs excluding stock awards, and by September internal AI usage had surged more than 250-fold since January. The company is not actually spending more cash on AI than on salaries, but more than 90% of the code added to its software in September was written by Claude, while revenue has grown far faster than headcount.
