Google will let schools skip AI tools, but they have to give up search, too

Google says schools using its education products will be opted out of AI tools by default, with administrators able to manually enable them when the changes roll out in the coming months. The affected products include Gemini, Gemini Notebook, Gemini in Classroom, and Google Search, and schools cannot pick and choose—they must allow all the AI or none of it. Google executives have said Google Search is AI search, with most searches now showing an AI Overview at the top.
