OpenAI acquires Pierre Computer Company to make Git keep up with AI coding agents

OpenAI is acquiring Pierre Computer Company, Inc., the startup behind Code Storage and open-source tools whose libraries already power OpenAI's coding agent Codex, including Trees for fast project file navigation, Diffs for displaying code changes and fixing bugs in the diff view, and Highlights for real-time syntax highlighting. OpenAI says the acquisition is about making Git workflows work better when developers and AI agents write code side by side, alongside its own Pando version control backend. Pierre's open-source projects will stay open source, and the deal still needs regulatory approval.
